Editing a PDF
Editing a PDFThis section contains information on editing the content in a PDF, including text and images. For information on how to add/remove entire pages, see Adding and Removing Pages from a PDF.
Depending on how the PDF was created, you may be able to edit directly within the original document. However, editing within image-only PDFs requires that the document first be converted to its native application (e.g., Word or Excel) then converted back to PDF. For directions on how to do this, see the section below on Preparing an Image-Only PDF for Editing.
Note: PDF files that are password protected specifying "No Modification" cannot be edited in these ways.
An image-only PDF is composed of scanned/copied images, with no underlying text layer.

Preparing an Image-Only PDF for Editing
1. Save a new copy of the image-only PDF file with a different name.

2. Convert the copy of the PDF to its native file type (e.g., Word, Excel, etc.) using the directions on the Converting from PDF to Another Format page. Note that when you do this, some of the formatting of the original document may not convert correctly. The file can be edited here, in Word format, or converted back to PDF and edited in Power PDF.

3. Convert the file that was created in the previous step back to PDF.
4. Open the new PDF in Power PDF.

5. Follow the directions in the editing sections below to edit the text and images within the document.

1. Click Edit in the top menu. Tools for editing the PDF will be displayed in the top ribbon.
2. Select the Edit Text tool, located in the Modify section. More text editing options will appear in the top ribbon.

3. Frames will appear around text that can be edited. Click inside one of these frames to begin editing the text.

Note: Text in image-only pages or areas cannot be modified until they have been made searchable. To do this, go to the Home tab and select Make PDF Searchable, located in the Convert section of the ribbon.

1. Click Edit in the top menu. Tools for editing the PDF will be displayed in the top ribbon.
2. Select the Typewriter tool, located in the Modify section. More typewriter formatting options will appear in the top ribbon.

3. Click at the location where you want to add text and begin typing. The typewriter tool can be used to add text anywhere, even outside of current text boxes.

Note: Text added with the Typewriter may be edited later with the Typewriter tool or the Edit Text tool (described in the above section).
