Add a Smartphone

Note: These directions are a continuation from those on the Enroll and Set up a Device and Add a New Device pages.

When you enroll a smartphone in Duo 2FA, the smartphone will automatically be able to authenticate via push notifications (via the Duo Mobile app) and phone calls (to the device’s phone number).

Please be sure to have your Apple ID or Google Store accounts ready.

  1. Select the Duo Mobile option.Duo Mobile option
  2. Enter the phone number associated with the device and click Continue.entering phone number
  3. Confirm that the number you entered is correct OR change it if necessary.confirming the entered number is correct
  4. Confirm that you have the Duo Mobile app on the device you are adding. When you’re ready, click Next.confirming you have Duo Mobile downloaded to the device
  5. A QR code will appear on the screen. You will be using this to add your device. There is also an option to use an activation link instead, if you prefer. (See Email an Activation Link if you do not wish to allow access to your smartphone’s camera.)qr code and option for activation link
  6. On your smartphone, open the Duo Mobile app.
  7. On the Duo welcome screen, click Continue.Duo Mobile welcome screen, with option to continue setup
  8. Select Use a QR code.Option to use QR code
  9. If your phone requests it, allow Duo Mobile to have access to your camera so that you can capture the QR code.
  10. Hold your camera up to the QR code. Your device should automatically detect the QR code.
  11. Name your account “Tufts University” and click Save to complete the setup process.Naming the account Tufts University
  12. Back on your computer, you should see confirmation that the activation is complete.

    If you just enrolled in Duo 2FA and this is the first device that you are adding, please return to the page on how to Enroll and Set Up a Device and continue from there! Otherwise, proceed to the next step.

  14. The added device will be displayed on the device management page. (Tip: If you have multiple devices enrolled in Duo, you may want to give this device a more specific name. For more information, see directions for Changing a Device’s Display Name.)Tile for a successfully added device
