Digital accessibility helps ensure that everyone can fully participate in Tufts’ digital spaces, whether for learning, teaching, working, or connecting online. By creating websites, courses, and digital services that are accessible by design, Tufts works to remove barriers for people with disabilities and improve the experience for everyone.
The Tufts Digital Accessibility Policy and accompanying Captioning Policy are grounded in principles of equity and inclusion, and in the knowledge that accessibility enhances usability for everyone.

Upcoming deadlines for implementation of strengthened Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title II regulations
While Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act applies specifically to state and local government entities (like public universities for example) we should be watching these developments closely, as they are likely to be incorporated into Title III at some point and provide updated guidance regarding the accessibility of web content and mobile applications.

OCR Finalizes Section 504 Rule to Strengthen Protections Against Disability Discrimination
On May 9, 2024, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR) published a final rule, Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability in Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance. The rule, which is effective July 8, 2024, updates, clarifies, and strengthens HHS’ implementing regulation for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504). This Fact Sheet includes detailed summaries of provisions within Section 504 to provide an overview of who is protected by Section 504 and who is obligated to comply with Section 504.
