Our information environment’s character and value are not defined by the assemblage of infrastructure, systems and data alone, but also by how thoughtfully and effectively we, as a community and as individuals, choose, shape and create with technologies in support of our mission and goals. At Tufts, faculty, staff and students share the responsibility of defining and sustaining meaningful IT services. To guide such vital work, Tufts’ IT governance provides a collaborative framework for identifying priorities, evaluating opportunities and options, aligning university resources, and assessing decisions’ impact. The committee structure and related IT project and service review processes are designed to inform IT strategy and policy from multiple viewpoints; at the same time, they enable efficient and timely decision-making to ensure we can together continuously improve Tufts’ IT environment.

Overview

Tufts’ IT governance model includes an IT Steering Committee, which serves as an overarching coordinating body, and five subcommittees, aligned to the university’s core mission and essential functions. The IT Steering Committee and the subcommittees act in an advisory role. Members are nominated by school and central leadership and approved by Tufts’ Provost and Executive Vice President. The IT Steering Committee is chaired by the CIO and includes the chairs of each subcommittee.

As advisory committees, the IT Steering Committee and the five subcommittees help define and sustain meaningful IT services. They supplement the work of project-based committees that oversee the design, implementation, operation and continuous improvement of specific IT services.
