Updating Duo Mobile

After March 31, 2026, Duo Mobile versions earlier than 4.85 will no longer work for two-factor authentication (2FA) at Tufts. If your app is on version 4.84 or lower, you must update. If your Duo Mobile app version begins with 4.9x, 4.10x, or higher, you are fine.

To avoid losing access to Tufts systems, it’s important that you keep your Duo Mobile app up to date.

Checking Your Duo Mobile App Version

  1. Open the Duo Mobile app on your mobile device.

  2. Click the menu icon in the top left corner.

  3. Check the version number listed in lefthand panel (e.g., 4.106.0.1515.1). If it is 4.85 or above, you’re all set.

Upgrading Your Duo Mobile App

Your Duo Mobile app may update automatically. If not, follow the steps below to manually update.

  1. On your mobile device, open the Apple App Store or Google Play Store

  2. Search for the “Duo Mobile” app.

  3. Tap Update. (If you only see an option to “Open,” your app is already up-to-date.)

  4. Follow the directions in the “Checking Your Duo Mobile App Version” section above to confirm your version is 4.85 or higher. If it is 4.85 or above, you’re all set.

Troubleshooting

If you’re having trouble updating Duo Mobile, try the following:

  • Restart your device

  • Check that you have enough storage space to download and install the update

  • Manually update another app to confirm your app store is working

If your app still doesn’t update, your mobile device’s operating system may be too old and no longer supported. Beginning April 2026, the latest Duo Mobile app version requires:

  • iPhone/iPad: iOS 16 or newer

  • Android: Android 12 or newer

Follow the steps below to check your operating system:

  • iPhone/iPad: Go to Settings > General > About > iOS Version

  • Android: Go to Settings > About Phone > Android Version
