Moderating Lists

Moderation within an e-list means that certain actions are reviewed and either approved or rejected before they are carried out. Depending on how they are configured, the following list actions can be moderated:

  • Messages to the list.
  • Subscriptions to and unsubscriptions from the list.

When messages are moderated, they are reviewed by the list's moderators and either accepted or rejected before being sent out to subscribers.

Important things to keep in mind about moderated lists:

  • Simply assigning moderator status to users will NOT make the list moderated.
  • Some list types are moderated by default.
  • To make a list moderated, follow the directions in the Who Can Send Messages section of the Managing List Settings page.
  • Unless other moderators are specified, the list's owners will automatically serve as the moderators. For information on how to manage moderators, see the Managing List Members page.

    • (Optional) When rejecting a message, you can also check the box next to the Add to blocklist/denylist option. Doing so will add the author’s email address to this e-list’s blocklist. Any requests by users who are on the blocklist will automatically be rejected.

When subscriptions and unsubscriptions are moderated, they are reviewed by the list’s owners and either accepted or rejected before they become official.
