Office 365 Student Mail Setup for Android

 

Overview

Guides to install and configure either Microsoft Office 365 (Microsoft Outlook) or the built-in mail app on an Android device. It is important to note that you must have a passcode set up to protect your device in order to access your Tufts email from your Android device. You can find instructions as to how to set this up below.

 

To access your Tufts email on your mobile device, you must have a passcode. 

(Please note that there are various Android operating systems, such as Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, etc., so the steps for your device may be slightly different.) 

  1. From your home screen, tap the Menu button, then tap Settings

  1. Scroll down until you find Security or Security and Screen Lock and tap it. This is typically located under the PERSONAL section. 

  1. Under SCREEN SECURITY, tap Screen Lock

  1. In the Choose a screen lock section, select which type of password you would like to use. 

    • Pattern: Sets an unlock screen which requires the user to draw a specific pattern between 9 on-screen points. 

    • PIN: Sets an unlock screen requiring the user to enter a numeric code. 

    • Password: Sets an unlock screen that requires entering an alphanumeric password (numbers, letters, and symbols). 

  1. For each option you will be asked to enter your Pattern/Pin/Password twice in order to verify the setting. 

Installing Microsoft Outlook (Office 365) on Your Android Device 

Follow these steps to set up Microsoft Outlook on your Android device. Microsoft Outlook for Android requires a device running Android 4.0 or later. App availability varies so find out what's available in your country. 

  1. Download the Microsoft Outlook app from the Google Play Store if you haven't installed it yet. (search for "Microsoft Outlook")

  1. If you already have it installed, open it, then tap More > Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account. Otherwise, tap Get Started

  1. In the first field (Enter your work or personal email address), type your full Tufts email address, for example lee.jumbo@tufts.edu 

  1. In the next page, enter your Tufts Username (e.g., ljumbo01) and your Tufts Password. 

  1. Tap Log in

  1. Respond to the Two-Factor Authentication request on your mobile device.  

  1. Select Yes to let the app access your information. Outlook begins syncing. 

  1. Tap one of the icons to view your calendar, files, or contacts in the app. 

The instructions below outline how to add your Tufts email to your Android device. This will allow you to connect your Android Mail application, Contacts application, Calendar application, and other built-in applications to your Tufts email. Please note that there are various Android operating systems (Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, etc.), so the steps for your device may be slightly different. 

  1. From your device's Home Menu screen, tap Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Email. 

  1. In the Email address field, enter your Tufts email address. Typically, this will be firstname.lastname@tufts.edu, such as lee.jumbo@tufts.edu

  1. In the Password field, enter your Tufts Password. 

  1. Tap Next. 

  1. Select the Exchange option. 

  1. If you see a message about additional security features, tap OK to continue. 

  1. Once the device verifies the server settings, the Account Options page opens. Accept the defaults or select the options for how you want to receive and send your mail, and then tap Next. (You may need to scroll down to see Next.) 

  1. On the set-up email page, you can change the name of your account. When you're finished tap Done. 

If your device needs you to fill in other fields, use these settings: 

  • Password:  your Tufts Password 

  • Server:  outlook.office365.com 

  • Domain:  leave it blank
