Collaboration
What does collaboration in Grouper look like?
As an admin on a Grouper folder, you can invite other people to the folder with elevated privileges that aren’t available to simple members of the group. This is done by adding them to special security groups.
When you add people to one of these security groups, you are granting them privileges to all contents (subfolders and groups) within the parent folder. See the example below. Adding someone to the Reader security group under BrianTest would give them reader privileges for all of the contents in BrianTest.
Security groups include:
- Readers (Recommended) – Can view the contents of your subfolders and groups, including group membership, but name make changes. This is generally recommended and can be useful if you have other people helping you review group membership periodically.
- Updaters – Have the same privileges as readers, but can also make changes to group membership except for the security groups (readers, updaters, admins). Caution should be used when giving people updater privileges. Updaters should receive some training on how to use Grouper.
- Admins (Not recommended)- Have all privileges for viewing and making changes to your subfolders and groups, including security groups (readers, updaters, admin).

Managing Grouper Collaborators
- Visit grouper.tufts.edu and log in with your Tufts credentials. (If you are not on campus, you will need to use the Tufts VPN for access!)
- Navigate to the folder you want to manage.
- Expand the folder and navigate to etc > security.
- Click on the security group you want to manage – Readers, Updaters, or Admins.
- Once the page opens for the security group, you can review members of that group, remove members, or add members. For more information, see the page on Groups.
