Folders

What are folders?

Folders are containers that are used to keep things organized. Everything in Grouper is contained within the “Root” folder, including the IAMPublic folder and your personal folders. Within your personal folders, you can create new subfolders and groups as needed, move content between folders, etc.

The IAMPublic folder contains reference groups based on available data about Tufts people. You cannot make changes to the IAMPublic groups, but they can be used as building blocks for your own groups.

The IAMPublic groups are organized into the following subfolders:

  • Composite-Location-Persona – Composite groups based on the intersection of Location and Persona data. For example, “Boston-Staff” or “Grafton-Students.”
  • Location – Groups based on Tufts campus: Boston, Fenway, Grafton, and Medford-Somerville.
  • Persona – Groups based on Tufts persona data: Faculty, Staff, etc.
  • Role – Groups based on non-persona role data: Affiliates and Clinical-Faculty
  • School – Groups based on Tufts school association: Cummings, Fletcher, etc.
IAMPublic folders

In addition to the IAMPublic folder, one or more personal folders will be set up for you. These folders are where you can build your own groups. By default, you will be the only one with access to these folders, but you can grant access to other people, if necessary. For more information, see page on Collaboration.

Recommendation: Always give people the fewest permissions possible (i.e., Reader). Collaborators should receive some Grouper training before being given additional access.
