Tufts VDI Native Client Installation

Reminder: If you still have the old VMware Horizon app, don’t forget to uninstall it after successfully installing the new Omnissa Horizon app.

Although you can access the Tufts VDI through your browser via the Omnissa Horizon web client, the native client is generally recommended for better performance and features. Follow the instructions below to install on your personal computer or mobile device.

  1. In your browser, navigate to https://vdi.it.tufts.edu/.
  2. Click the To see the full list of Omnissa Horizon Clients, click here option.option to see full list of Omnissa Horizon clients
  3. A page will load with all of the available Omnissa Horizon clients for various operating systems - Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and Chromebooks.
  4. Find the appropriate option for your device and click GO TO DOWNLOADS.
  5. Click the DOWNLOAD NOW button.
  6. Download and install the application.
  7. When installation completes, open the application.
  8. When you are prompted to add a server address, enter the following: vdi.it.tufts.edu
  9. Click Connect. (Tip: Having trouble connecting? If you are not using a secure on-campus connection, try connecting to the Tufts VPN first.)
  10. A Tufts login screen may open in your browser. Log in with your Tufts credentials.
  11. Back in the Omnissa application, a VDI login screen will appear. Log in with your Tufts credentials. Make sure the domain says TUFTS.
  12. After successful login, a list of available desktops and applications will appear. Select your desired option. Available options may vary by user. For more information, see the AccessTufts Remote Computing Infrastructure page.
