Change Your Password Across Multiple Devices
If you have multiple devices (laptop, desktop, smart device, etc.) that are configured to automatically connect to Tufts resources such as email, you will need to ensure that you update the settings for these devices immediately after you reset your password. In order to protect the integrity of Tufts data and computing resources, all accounts are locked after a password has been entered incorrectly 5 times. If you change your Tufts Password on your primary computer but do not change it on smart devices, your Tufts account may become locked.
Before You Begin
Before changing your password, the following actions are strongly recommended:
- Change your Tufts Password while you are on campus and connected to the Tufts network.
- Use Tufts Tools (http://tuftstools.tufts.edu) to complete this process.
- Change your password from your primary Tufts computer.
- When you have finished changing your password, close all open applications and restart your computer.
- Have all of your smart devices (iPhone, Android phone, iPad, tablet, etc.) available. If these devices are configured to access Tufts email, the Tufts Password will need to be updated.
Steps to Change your Passwords across Multiple Devices
- Change your Tufts Password from your primary computer using Tufts Tools. (See Change your Tufts Password)
- Update your password on mobile devices. (See Update Mobile Devices)
- Update your secondary computer. (See Update Secondary Computer)
Note: If your Windows laptop is a McAfee encrypted laptop, when you change your Tufts password, you may need to use your old Tufts password the first time you log back in. There can be a slight delay as the password synchronizes between the McAfee and Exchange servers.
