Keeping Up With the Stats - Tufts Upgrades to IBM SPSS Premium Campus Edition
At Tufts University, we want to make sure our students have the software that is essential to learning the cutting-edge methods that will enable them to be competitive in the job market upon graduation. A recent request from faculty brought to our attention that our current license with IBM SPSS was lacking in some of the critical modules necessary for our student’s training.
In response, Tufts Technology Services (TTS) has negotiated a license with IBM to upgrade our IBM SPSS Standard Campus Edition (Base, Advanced, and Regression modules) with SPSS Premium Campus Edition, which offers more advanced and comprehensive analytical capabilities.
What is IBM SPSS?
SPSS Premium Campus Edition is an extensive statistical software package that includes statistical graphics, data mining capabilities, and many modules. It is an “all-in-one” software package designed with multiple advanced analytics requirements that will help our faculty, students and staff to easily accomplish tasks at every phase of the analytical process.
SPSS Premium Campus Edition offers extensive statistical graphics and data mining capabilities as well as the following SPSS modules:

Benefiting the Community
Kristina Schmid Callina, a Research Assistant Professor at Tuft’s Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development, recounts her time as a doctoral student at Tufts. “I was a doctoral student at Tufts and graduated in 2013 from Elliot-Pearson. The technology that is available to students today compared to when I started my training in 2008 is really impressive.”
Callina was one of the professors who helped to pave the way for getting the IBM SPSS Premium Pack on campus in collaboration with TTS. This negotiation not only increased the capabilities of the SPSS software on campus, but it helps to keep Tufts competitive with other higher education institutions and ensures we have the best and most up-to-date tools.
As the negotiations with IBM were finalized and Callina was notified that we had licensed the upgraded software suite, Callina thanked TTS profusely, saying, “WOW!!! I just got home from a conference and feel like I’m opening an early Christmas present! Thank you for helping us to resolve this request so quickly and efficiently. We (and all our current and future students) are very grateful for your attention to this; it really demonstrates Tuft’s commitment to graduate training and training in methodology.” And as she shared the good news with her faculty colleagues, they, too, expressed their appreciation, touting how this will benefit many students, staff and faculty in the Tufts community.
The IT Support Technician in your area will be upgrading your current license to allow you access to the SPSS Premium Edition.
