Bio

As Director of Network Services, Phil is responsible for all of the University’s Network Systems, Services and related Infrastructure. Leading the charge to plan, build, operate and maintain critical services such as the wired and wireless network, datacenters, and service provider links to the Internet as well as to the Research focused Internet-2, Phil works to deliver the “Information Highway” to the University for the facilitation of communication and collaboration by the Tufts Community, aiding in teaching, learning and research. Since joining Tufts in 2008, Phil has spear-headed many strategic initiatives to improve the University’s network and its resiliency including the design and build-out of its optical network and inter-campus connectivity, deployment of “ubiquitous” wireless service, centralization of firewalls and security, renovation of its data-centers, expansion to collocation spaces and connectivity to the cloud through partnerships with Northern-Crossroads and Internet-2.
 
Having more than 25-years of “hands-on” technical and leadership experience in the Networking and Telecommunications field, Phil has been entrenched in the evolution of the networking technologies that have realized the convergence of voice, data and video, driving the explosive growth of Internet, and the “Internet-of-Things”. Prior to working at Tufts, Phil spent several years working as an Engineering Manager and a Principal VOIP Engineer, for a leading telecommunications service provider, One Communications. Phil honed his diverse knowledge of network systems, infrastructure and security during previous time spent as a Sr. Internetwork Solutions Engineer for Thrupoint  and earlier as Field Engineer for Anixter. Phil has leveraged well his customer service skills and consulting experience from Ameritech/SBC Datacom where he worked as a Regional Engineering & Operations Manager to deliver customer service and provide post-sales support across a region spanning New England and Upper State New York.
 
Phil holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. Phil enjoys time outside of work with his family. He is an avid outdoors person who enjoys trail running, cycling, and hiking. Phil has also spent much time working with his local Boy Scouts of America troop in a variety of supporting volunteer roles, driving youth learning & leadership development through troop activities, and Venture Crew initiatives.
