Replace an Existing Smartphone/Tablet

If you have purchased a smartphone/tablet that is meant to replace another one that was previously enrolled in Duo 2FA, you should follow the steps below to register the new device and enable push notifications.

You should only proceed if you are reactivating a smartphone with the same number as the original device OR a tablet. Do NOT proceed if you are trying to set up a new device or a phone with a different number. To do that, follow the directions on the Add a New Device page.

Before you begin…the directions differ slightly for devices that were restored from a backup versus ones that were NOT.

If you restored the new device from a backup of your old device, you should already have the Duo Mobile app installed, but you’ll still need to reconnect the device. If you did NOT restore the new device from a backup of your old one, you’ll need to install the Duo Mobile app and the setup process will look a little different.

Different welcome screens you might see in the Duo Mobile app depending on if you restored your device from a backup or not
